Found a Kitten
Tonight we went to see the new movie Ratatouille. It was cute and was pretty funny throughout. It was long for a kids' movie, however, running 2hrs. Good sermon illustration near the end.
Anyways, on the way home, just down the street from our house, we saw a black kitten about to run out into the street with his mother right behind trying to stop him. While not a hugely busy street, there are plenty of cars going down it all day long. I pulled over and turned around. The kitten was right in the middle of my lane frozen with cars coming the other way at full speed. Adriana jumped out and grabbed him as he tried to run away. The mother took off. We took him up to the two closest houses, but no one was home at either one. Not wanting to leave the little guy at the mercy of our fellow-New York drivers, we took him home. He was shaking and dirty. I guessed that he was probably a stray. He can't be more than a couple of weeks old and is only the size of my hand. We brought him home, cleaned him up and gave him some milk from a bottle. He ate like he was starving. The girls, of course, instantly began asking if we could keep him. After a couple of hours, Ady drove back down the street to see if any potential owners were home. She found one lady outside who said that it was indeed a stray. She said that the mother, the white cat we had seen, had four kittens - two white ones, a black one, and a black one with a white chest (that's the one we found) - and had been wandering through several yards with them for a couple of weeks.
We are considering keeping him, but I am not sure I want more vet bills including the cost of future neutering. We are thinking of giving him to my sister-in-law as a wedding present as she will be living near us and the girls will still get to see him. For now we have named him Nacho. He bonded with me quite quickly, even falling asleep on me this evening, and will not stop cuddling up to me. I think he's scared of two girls, a dog, and another cat, all of whom are showing overly agressive interest in him. He is not sure (nor am I) if they are trying to kill him or play with him. lol! Right now he is crawling all over me and purring. If I have made it through this without typos, it will be a miracle as he keeps walking accross the keyboard.
